The Chinese government expresses its strong dissatisfaction with this and opposes any groundless smears and accusations against China. In fact, China is a major victim of cyberattacks. The Embassy would like to reiterate that China is firmly against and cracks down all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with law. China does not encourage, support or condone hacking activities. As with any good crime story, the question to ask is, who benefits most from the crime?

Would a country deepening trade relations with Singapore also seek to cause "major disruption to Singapore and Singaporeans"? That would be like sabotaging your own customers or vendors, basically own-goal.

Reminds me of US senators claiming that Russia blew up the Nord Stream pipelines when Russia is profiting from selling LNG to Europe via those pipelines.

Mandiant is an American cybersecurity firm, and they always blame either the Chinese or the Russians.  
It doesn’t make any sense for this to be the Chinese, especially now, when relations between Singapore and China are good — the Prime Minister was just in China for a visit.   
This was likely done by someone trying to drive a wedge between China and Singapore.
